Three Garage Door Maintenance Tips for Every Homeowner

Your garage doors have an important role in your home. They usually get used several times a day and are exposed to all kinds of weather, use, and even abuse. Garage door maintenance is important to keep your garage doors working properly, looking attractive, and ensuring their long-term use. Three garage door maintenance tips for every homeowner are:

  1. Test Safety Features – It is important to periodically make sure that the two main safety features of your garage doors are working. First, close your door and pass your foot in between the two sensors. The garage door should stop and reverse back up. Second, place a brick or something similar in the way of the garage door closing. Press the close button and when the door reaches the brick it should stop and open back up.
  2. Observe – When you are using your garage door be aware of any sounds that are not normal. Also, watch the door and look for any movements that are not typical. If your door is making noises or acting strangely, then it is likely it needs to be repaired by a professional.
  3. Tracks – Ensure that the tracks on either side of the door are clear of any foreign objects. Any issues with the tracks will need to be addressed by a professional.

These garage door maintenance tips will help you to keep your garage doors working properly, hopefully for many years. If during these maintenance tips you find that your garage door isn’t working properly, then give us a call at Doors by Nalley of Lake Norman, Inc.
